WELCOME
Whether you want to get fit and tone up, learn self-defence, wish to compete or are simply bored of doing the same old thing at the gym every day; this is the place for you! Juniors, adults, beginners through to seasoned fighters are all welcome. So whether you're interested in non, semi or full contact training; we aim to provide the classes you need.
We boast 4 dedicated Muay Thai instructors, a decorated, actively competitive Brazilian Jiu Jitsu coach, two strength and conditioning coaches and two actively competing MMA coaches. Our fully equipped, totally refurbished gym contains a full array of training equipment such as kettle bells, boxing ring, punch bags, boxing gloves, pads and shin guards, and a whole host more...
Our flexible, competitive pricing structure means that you can attend absolutely any class and train in any discipline as often as you like for one fixed monthly cost or pay-as-you-go for each class you attend. There are no fixed terms on any pricing plans - stop, start, pause or switch whenever you wish - there are no tie-ins or hidden fees and you can switch between the two payment methods as you wish.

The two things that really separate us from any other gym is:

1) Our attention and welcome to beginners and the technical detail we're able to employ in all our beginner classes
2) The fun, friendly atmosphere we have at the gym thanks to the wonderful family of students and instructors we have. We don't take ourselves too seriously and ensure that we're able to make the (very serious) training part fun and enjoyable in the first instance.

INSTRUCTORS
Shahab "Shabba" Uddin - BCA Head Coach/Owner
Shahab has been training Muay Thai for over two decades and teaching for more than 10 years. He is described by his peers as one of the most technical practitioners of Muay Thai in the sport.
Shahab has spent considerable time training in Thailand at the world renowned WMC camp in Samui and Bang Tao gym in Phuket. In the UK, he trained and fought under Heavyweight European and UK Muay Thai and K1 champ, Christian Knowles at the Minotaur Gym.
Unfortunately, he is also a Southpaw :)
Elias "Juice Boy" Abreu
Elias is a currently active MMA fighter who's already beaten some big names in his stand up K-1 and Muay Thai bouts. He's an all-round practitioner with a penchant for stand up fighting. His unorthadox style makes him a very tricky competitor and he's happy to teach all of the considerable skills that he's amassed to date.
Andrew "Manchild" Herrmann
Andrew is an active MMA fighter with several wins under his belt in Muay Thai, BJJ and MMA bouts. His attention to detail when it comes to technique makes him a great teacher and practitioner. Don't let his mild manner fool you; he's an animal underneath!!
Darren "Daz" Jones
Daz is the founder of Force MMA and our head MMA coach at the Barnet Combat Academy. He has taught MMA for over a decade and his highest coaching accolade is his student Jamie Richardson (see photo) an active professional MMA fighter who recently fought for the Cage Warriors World title.

Daz's attention to detail and non nonsense atitude is what separates him from the rest and is a big hit with begginers looking to take up the sport.
Ricardo "Ricky" Cidra
Ricardo is a Brown Belt in Brazialian Jiu Jitsu and our head BJJ coach. He is an active competitor as well as a coach, holding the British NoGi title as well as multiple medals in the Gi.

Ricky is a bona fide Brazilain so you can expect 100% authenticity in all his teaching!
Tanya"Killer" Kailides
After earning a BSc (Hons) in Human Biology from Loughborough, Tanya has been a full time Strength & Conditioning coach and personal trainer for over a decade. She actively competes in weightlifting competitions around the country and is a very proficient Muay Thai Boxing practitioner.

All these accolades make her the perfect S&C coach at BCA. Her sessions compliment the fight sports we practice at our club, providing a whole-body workout you won't forget!
Lee "Right Hand" Wrighton
Lee joined BCA coming from a Kickboxing background. However, he took to Muay Thai like a duck to water! Having fought successfully for the gym numerous times, we're very pleased to have him as part of the faculty.

Lee brings as much fun to his classes as he does hard work. So be prepared to get as much of an abs workout from laughing as you will from crunches!

Eric "Backstreet" Goudie
Eric has been a student of BCA for many years now, starting as a complete novice and progressing to become one of our most experienced and talented fighters - competing for the gym numerous times at various levels.

Now a coach, you can expect a high level of technique and attention to detail in all of Eric's classes. As well as the intense workout you get from all the training at BCA!!

CLASSES EXPLAINED
MMA (Mixed Martial Arts)

A full-contact combat sport that allows the use of both striking and grappling techniques, both standing and on the ground, from a variety of other combat sports and martial arts (although the striking is predominantly Muay Thai techniques which the grappling is a mixture of BJJ and wrestling).

BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu)

A martial art, combat sport, and a self defence system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique, taking the fight to the ground – most notably by applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the other person. BJJ training can be used for sport grappling tournaments and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition or self-defence.
Muay Thai

Also known as Thai Boxing. A martial art from Thailand which uses stand-up striking and clinching techniques. It makes prominent use of punches, kicks, elbow strikes, and knee strikes, using eight points of contact, in contrast to the hands and feet (four contact points) more often relied upon in other martial arts. Numerous techniques associated with Muay Thai can be found in MMA.

Strength and Conditioning

Our Strength & Conditioning classes put you through a rigorous training session which will have you lifting kettlebells, doing high intensity interval cardio (HIIT), movement based strength work and more! All these stacked in a way that will have you fitter and stronger than ever before... No two classes are the same, so the training never gets repetitive and keeps your body guessing!

FAQs
Q. Do I have to pre book in order to attend a class?
A. No, we have an open door policy. There's no need to book in for any classes - just show up and train!
Q. Do you offer a trial class?
A. Yes, your first class is absolutely free of charge! There's no need to book, just choose any class from the timetable that you wish to attend and turn up. Just mention to the coach that you're attending a trial and we'll take care of the rest.
Q. Are the classes beginner friendly? Do I need any previous experience?
A. We welcome novices and there's no need to have trained in any martial art before. All our beginners classes are suitable for people who have never thrown a punch or kick before. We actually prefer it that way as it means you can learn our style from the ground up.
Q. What equipment will I need?
A. If you own any appropriate equipment, then please do bring it along. However, if not, then everything you'll need can be borrowed from the club for as long as you wish. There's no need to spend any money on purchasing your own equipment until you're sure you want to commit to the training regularly
Q. What clothing should I wear?
A. Just regular workout clothing is fine - whatever you'd normally wear to go the gym, or for a run. All training is done barefoot so there's no need to worry about footwear. Be sure to bring a bottle of water and a towel though, because you'll definitely get a workout!
Q. Are there any joining fees or hidden costs?
A. None. We have two pricing options - You can pay in cash each time you attend a class or we have a monthly membership option which is taken out of your account via direct debit and gives you access to all classes on the timetable. Both options have no minimum term and you can start/stop/pause or swap any time you like
Q. I'm a bit nervous about training in a combat sport, will I get hurt?
A. Absolutely not!! We totally understand that it can be daunting to start a combat sport. Our beginners classes have very limited contact and we will slowly but surely work you up towards contact training - if that's what you desire - If not, there's no expectation or need for students to participate in sparring or anything else. Many of our students train with us purely for fitness!
Q. Why should I train at Barnet Combat Academy?
A. The thing that really separates us from any other club is the atmosphere. We have such a great family at BCA, who are so friendly and welcoming to each other. While the training is tough, we don't take ourselves too seriously so you can expect a great workout while having fun. laughs and really feel like you're part of a community.
